ThyForLife Helping Thyroid Patients During The COVID-19 Pandemic
Vancouver-Based Startup Launched a Mobile Tracking App for Millions of Patients Worldwide
VANCOUVER, BC – July 9, 2020 – ThyForLife has launched a free thyroid tracking mobile app on Google Play Store to help thyroid patients track their condition during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hypothyroidism forms the majority of all thyroid conditions, and primary care physicians recorded it as the 6th most common disease in the US, with over 3 million new patients being diagnosed every year. During the pandemic, many patients have been unable to attend in-person consultations with their doctors and even do required blood tests, which makes it very difficult for them to know how their health is progressing. ThyForLife’s app is able to help these patients by providing a platform to keep track of their health.
According to Dr. Natalie Bessom, “I find patients with thyroid disorders often feel helpless when it comes to managing this challenging disease. The app restores a sense of control to monitor, track, and reassess when discussing thyroid symptoms and dosing with their physician.” The mobile app by ThyForLife enables users to monitor their health by inputting bloodwork, thyroid medication and weight data all in one place. The app also sends reminders to take medication. ThyForLife visualizes patient data in an intuitive interface, enabling users to save time keeping track of multiple data points and improve their understanding of their health.
Natalia Lumen, Founder and CEO of ThyForLife has personally experienced the struggles that many patients are currently facing, after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2017. “Thyroid patients already feel neglected even without COVID-19. They deal with the condition every day, but see their doctor for only 20 minutes on average every few months. Imagine having to deal with debilitating symptoms during isolation such as fatigue, sleep deprivation and even depression. It’s a lot. We’re building ThyForLife to help patients regain control of their health.”
In the near future, ThyForLife is planning on adding additional functions for users to connect with other members in the thyroid community and access telehealth consultations. “Together with 50 of our beta users, we created a core solution to keep track of the essentials, such as bloodwork, medication and weight. Our users have told us how important it was for them to be able to normalize bloodwork results from different labs on a single scale, so we built this solution for them as well,” said Natalia.
